An Ohio woman’s need for speed ended with more than an expensive ticket after a cop, almost bowled over by the weed smell wafting from her truck, called in the dogs and found a lot of drugs, including 280 pounds (127 kg) of cannabis. A deputy with the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) was on patrol north of Phoenix at about 5:15 am on Dec. 1, according to a YCSO Facebook post . The officer saw the driver speeding and failing to stay within her lane, prompting him to direct her to pull over. The driver complied, but things started to go south shortly thereafter. Crystal Briley, 39, was the sole occupant of the truck, which had Ohio plates. Reporting that Briley was “extremely nervous during the interaction and deceptive when answering questions,” the deputy believed that she was involved in some type of illegal drug activity. Briley responded by saying there was only a small amount of weed in her purse. The driver denied the officer’s request to search her vehicle, prompting the deputy to call in a Department of Public Safety trooper and K-9 “to conduct a ‘free air’ exterior sniff around the truck.” It didn’t take much of a walk around the truck before the K-9 sniffed out the illicit drugs.
