A mighty load of weed dumped near a Texas town at the U.S./Mexico border surely had an intended recipient, but he or she wasn’t able to collect before customs officers showed up to spoil the party. The drugs have since been turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The authorities suggested that if criminals keep unloading drugs onto U.S. land, officers will continue finding and seizing it. “Patrolling our borders remains a 24/7 operation, even during holidays and the COVID pandemic,” Matthew Hudak, sector chief patrol agent for CBP’s Laredo office, says in the statement. Despite COVID-19 and travel restrictions that have eliminated most cross-border traffic, “narcotics smugglers continue their brazen attempts to bring drugs into our country,” notes the CBP. Agents of the Laredo Sector “will continue to be vigilant in securing the nation’s borders and preventing the smuggling of drugs,” it adds.
