It was both trick and treat for the community of Delta, B.C. when an eagle-eyed parent spied a weed edible in a child’s Halloween haul and reported the incident to police, kicking off a probe that ended with an illegal drug lab being dismantled. COVID-19 was not enough to put a complete damper on Halloween celebrations for a B.C. family, but the sweet fun soon soured when a parent found cannabis edibles inside a child’s treat bag, according to the Delta Police Department . Warning other parents in the area, the local officers note they did not receive any other complaints or information about children consuming weed. On Nov. 20, officers with the unit executed a warrant on a home in North Delta and found that the dwelling appeared to be “dedicated to cannabis production, extraction, packaging for street sale, as well as advertising,” the police statement notes. In all, officers seized thousands of cannabis edibles and shut down the illegal cannabis extraction lab. It has since been dismantled. An unidentified man and woman have been arrested in connection with the incident. “Police anticipate recommending a number of charges, including distribution to minors, possess for purpose selling and prohibited synthetic production,” the statement adds.
