Cannabis used by Bronze Age surgeons to treat warriors – Daily Star

stone-age-brain-surgery-790993Archaeologists believe the man from a prehistoric stone axe-making culture lived some years after the intrusive trepanation procedure, where a hole was drilled in the skull to ward off evil spirits.

The well-preserved skull was recently found on a disused Stalinist shooting range in Moldova, in eastern Europe.
Such brain surgery was carried out in ancient times evidently in attempts to ease severe headaches or to cure a haematoma or following skull injuries.

It might have been used, too, with the aim of curing epilepsy.
