Cannabis is still the most used illegal drug in Ireland, according to new data.

And while the majority disagree with recreational use of cannabis, almost three quarters of people think it should be permitted for medical use.

Health Promotion Minister Catherine Byrne said she welcomed the findings in the new report and praised the 2017 report on drugs and alcohol for helping the new study.

She said: “‘Reducing Harm, Supporting Recovery – a health led response to drug and alcohol use in Ireland 2017-2025’ was an important milestone in emphasising and progressing a health-led, person-centred approach to drug and alcohol use in Ireland.
