The condition left him unable to close his eyes completely and his ability to move was limited.
His tight red skin would often crack painfully and his body was unable to regulate his temperature as he could not sweat.
The condition affects one in 100,000 people in the US and affects the formation of the outer layer of the skin, causing sufferers to develop dark, plate-like scales.
