Key points: More than half of respondents in the South East say those caught with cannabis shouldn’t go to jail In the Riverland and South East, 70 per cent of respondents agreed under-18s shouldn’t be able to buy vape products More than half of respondents opposed lifting the price of alcohol Roughly a third of rural and regional residents in the state’s Mid-North, Barossa and Yorke regions think cannabis use should be legalised. Data released by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare found 35 per cent of survey respondents in those areas said cannabis use should be legalised, up from 22 per cent in 2010. The data from the National Drug Strategy Household Survey — which is conducted every three years — was collected in 2019 and released last week. Aboriginal Drug and Alcohol Council CEO Professor Scott Wilson said changes in drug policies overseas seemed to be swaying Australians.
