California: MCSO: Large illegal marijuana grow eradicated in Potter Valley

CANNANNEW REPORT

For the second year in a row, local law enforcement responded to a reported illegal marijuana grow at a property in Potter Valley and removed thousands of plants, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office reported. According to the MCSO, deputies from the Marijuana Enforcement Team responded to the 9000 block of West Side Road around 1 p.m. June 2 with members of the Mendocino Major Crimes Task Force to serve a search warrant related to an investigation into an “unlawful marijuana/cannabis cultivation operation.” At the property, law enforcement reportedly “observed several plastic style hoop houses on the property that contained growing marijuana,” and the property was reportedly “not legally licensed/permitted to cultivate marijuana to this scale.” Upon the arrival of law enforcement, “four Hispanic males fled the property on foot and were not captured, (and) three Hispanic females were located within a ‘trimming room.’” Since one of the females was a 16-year-old minor, she was later released to Child Protective Services. A total of 3,741 marijuana plants were eradicated and destroyed, along with 115 pounds of hanging bud marijuana. A criminal investigative report was forwarded to the Mendocino County District Attorney’s Office for review of criminal charging and potential prosecution, including against a 62-year-old Potter Valley woman at the property. The MCSO also notes that it served a search warrant at the same property in August of 2020 to investigate an unlawful marijuana grow, and at that time “several thousand marijuana plants were illegally cultivated and ultimately eradicated.” MCSO: Large illegal marijuana grow eradicated in Potter Valley
