A 36-year-old woman has been charged with allowing her two children — aged 10 and 11 — access to a controlled substance after they ate cannabis edibles and later became severely ill while at school. “Initially the effects of the marijuana edibles impaired the children’s ability to walk and talk,” reports the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO). The amount of edibles consumed “resulted in a rapid decline in their health and cognitive ability, to include causing hallucinations,” alleges the PCSO. Having consumed edibles that looked like candy, they were hospitalized overnight, but have since recovered. “This certainly raises the red flag about the dangers of marijuana edibles getting into the hands of children,” says Pennington County Sheriff Kevin Thom. “These drugs target our youth and are intentionally designed to look like candy. Their potency can cause serious health issues to young children,” Thom adds. Sandra Pashby faces the felony charge of possession of a controlled substance, as well as a misdemeanour count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor or abuse neglect of a minor.
