A U.K. man is facing serious consequences after police were called to his illegal barbecue. Derbyshire police officers responded to a call on April 7 of last year after neighbours called to report a gathering of people on the property, in violation of the region’s strict COVID lockdown rules, Staffordshire Live reports. The grow consisted of “79 adult plants, 49 infant plants, 30 bulbs, and five jars.” At a hearing, Geriksonas admitted to possession and production of cannabis. Although medical cannabis was recently legalized in the UK (albeit under strict regulations), adult-use cannabis remains prohibited and is categorized as a Class B drug along with amphetamines, codeine, ketamine, and barbiturates. Prosecutor Hayley Bennett noted that despite the “professional” nature of the set-up, “all [Geriksonas’] devices were checked and no evidence was found of drug dealing. He was not under the influence of anyone else.” Defence lawyer Chris Hallas confirmed that the grow was for personal use. “It was his own operation, solely for his use with the expectation to feed his own habit,” Hallas told Derby Crown Court. “This happened in April, last year.
