Five-time Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Star Andruw Jones is now the co-owner of a cannabis company, per the Atlanta Business Chronicle . Fytiko Farms, which also operates in Oklahoma, plans to produce cannabis oil with low doses of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) for medical patients in Georgia. We want to jump on it first here [in Georgia] and, hopefully, around April, we can start growing,” Jones told Atlanta Business Chronicle, adding that cannabis can be a natural alternative to prescription medications like Ambien and Valium. “The more natural (options) we have, the better off we’ll be as a country,” Jones argued. The company is co-founded with Joe Dan Rogers, a former NFL scout for the Atlanta Falcons. According to the Fytiko Farms website, the company has a licence to grow 100 acres of hemp in Oklahoma and has applied for a Class 2 Low-THC Oil Production Licence in Georgia. Of the leading sports leagues, the MLB has some of the most progressive policies when it comes to cannabis, treating the plant similarly to how it treats alcohol.
