Study: Cannabis may reduce blood pressure in older adults with hypertension

A new study published in the European Journal of Internal Medicine has found that cannabis consumption among older adults with hypertension is associated with a drop in blood pressure. The study was focused on patients aged 60 or older with hypertension and a medical cannabis prescription. Researchers monitored blood pressure, blood tests, electrocardiograms (ECG) and anthropometric measurements prior to the initiation of cannabis therapy and followed up three months afterward. They found that cannabis treatment was associated with a reduction in 24-hours systolic and diastolic blood pressure values, with the largest reduction occurring three hours after cannabis administration.
