A now-former corrections employee of Lincoln Correctional Center in Nebraska faces two felony charges after being arrested for allegedly delivering cannabis to an inmate inside the minimum-security facility where he worked. Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) arrested Xavier Palomares, who had been employed as a corporal at Nebraska Department of Correctional Services’ (NDCS) Diagnostic and Evaluation Center since March of 2020, earlier this month, the NDCS reports . Citing court records, the Lincoln Journal Star reports that an NSP trooper affidavit notes two officers were called to the correctional centre at about 2:15 pm on Feb. 6 to arrest Palomares. It is alleged that an inmate gave the suspect a note containing a phone number and Palomares then brought cannabis to the prison on Jan. 16, reportedly in exchange for US$1,000 ($1,270). It is reported the unspecified amount of weed was smuggled into the centre inside a roll of toilet paper. The former employee subsequently resigned his position and was later booked into the Lancaster County jail. Last November, another corrections worker — this time a guard at Duval County jail in Jacksonville, Fla . — was charged with multiple felonies for allegedly smuggling weed, methamphetamine and other contraband into the facility. The contraband was delivered in a package, so toilet paper, toilets and other bathroom-related products and activities were not involved.
