Calgary police are looking for two suspects who robbed Cancan Club Cannabis, a licenced cannabis retailer, earlier this week. Global News reports that the suspects stole $800 from the store register while holding employees at gunpoint. ‘It was bound to happen’: Tokyo Smoke store in Ont. falls victim to armed robbery over weekend Woman laid off from her hospital job uses unemployment money to open cannabis-friendly gym Man calls cops on ex-girlfriend for stealing his pot The suspects then fled down a neighbouring alley where they had stashed air leg casts as a means to disguise themselves, Global reports. One suspect is identified as having a full beard, while the other is described as 5’6” and wearing a black hoodie. It’s similar to a robbery that occurred at a Tokyo Smoke cannabis dispensary in Oshawa, Ont., in February. Two armed and masked men entered the store around 10:30 p.m. and proceeded to empty the store’s tills before taking off in a waiting vehicle. In 2019, Edmonton-based CannaMart was the site of what is believed to be the first reported cannabis store robbery in the province. Two men entered the store around 9 p.m. and stole a variety of merchandise before stealing a vehicle at the scene and fleeing. While the vehicle was later recovered, the suspects were not apprehended. Following that robbery, Heather Holmen, a spokesperson for Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC), said it’s the AGLC’s role to assist police in their investigational efforts. “AGLC will review the incident with the retailer and work with them to address any issues if they were identified in the review,” Holmen said in a statement.
