Intercepted at the Dublin Parcel Hub on Jan. 8, the packages destined for Dublin, Longford and Wicklow were seized as part of Revenue’s ongoing operations to target illegal drug importation. Revenue extended a hand to members of the public, citing the value of receiving these sorts of tips. Just this past November , an Irish man in his 30s faced several drug charges after a joint investigation by Revenue and the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau led to the discovery of 31 kilograms of cannabis with estimated street value of €620,000 ($961,000) inside a vehicle. Other recent seizures by Revenue officers include three kilograms of cannabis from Wales said to be worth almost €63,000 ($97,650) at Rosslare Europort, 8.4 kg of marijuana valued at €168,000 ($260,400), originating from Spain, and a kilogram of cannabis valued at €20,000 ($31,000) at a Dublin premises. Ireland is hardly the only country on the receiving end of illegally imported drugs. Just this weekend, two people were arrested at a vape store in Manila after authorities learned about an illegal shipment sent via FedEx from California. Again, the package was not property manifested — it was said to contain “musical instruments” — and contained high-grade Kush marijuana, notes a Facebook post by the Philippine National Police…
