In video footage obtained by TMZ , Cleveland Browns receiver Rashard Higgins can be seen stomping on a joint and kicking it down a sewer, at the request of police. Officers approached Higgins’s vehicle and asked why it smelled like cannabs. Higgins responded that he had smoked the day before. Officers said the smell was probable cause to conduct a search and found a joint in Higgins’ pocket, which he said he had forgotten about. “You guys are celebrities around here, so you don’t want that hitting the news, okay?” the officer can be heard telling Higgins before ordering him to stomp on the joint and kick it down a sewer grate. Both players are due in court later this month. Medical cannabis is legal in Ohio but recreational cannabis is not. According to Weedmaps , possession of fewer than 100 grams of pot is a minor misdemeanour, punishable by a fine of up to US$150. Earlier this season, Higgins had his first 100-yard game, tallying 100 receiving yards on six receptions. Cleveland’s quarterback, Baker Mayfield, is one of several active NFL players currently signed to a CBD endorsement deal. A Browns spokesperson told ESPN that the team is aware of the incident and is gathering more information to “handle this matter appropriately.”
