Hotel manager caught transporting 50 pounds of cannabis in suitcases

A hotel manager from Virginia has been arrested and charged in New Jersey after police found 50 pounds (23 kilograms) of cannabis in the trunk of his car, reports Essex Daily Voice.  Ryan Barnes, 45, was stopped by police in New Jersey’s Bergen county earlier this week. Police allege Barnes had “inconsistencies in his story” and decided to call for the K9 unit to inspect his vehicle. Officers then searched the car and found cannabis concealed in several suitcases with a reported value of US$125,000 ($161,250). They also recovered US$6,800 ($8,772) in cash. New Jersey was one of four states where voters elected to legalize adult-use cannabis during the November election. With a population of just under 9 million, the Garden State is set to become one of the U.S.’s largest cannabis markets. Scott Rudder, a former state legislator, told Bloomberg that legalizing cannabis would boost the state’s fiscal coffers and lead to more employment opportunities. “Instead of spending this money, let’s create more money,” Rudder said . “And instead of arresting people, let’s create jobs.”
