The UN is set to make a historical decision which will impact the immediate future of cannabis. After a thorough review of cannabis the World Health Organisation (WHO) made a series of recommendations to the UN regarding the rescheduling of cannabis. If passed by the UN, it could lead to further moves around the world to legalise and decriminalize cannabis. It would also put many countries’ national bodies in a position where they might have to reevaluate their drug control policies. Changing attitudes In recent years there has been an explosion of interest in the therapeutic effects of cannabis. If the WHO’s new recommendations were to pass it would mean an increase in medicinal and scientific research. In the recent US elections, several states voted to decriminalise or legalise the sale and possession of cannabis. This is reflective of the global public mood regarding cannabis, general.
