A U.K. man attempted to hide from police after being suspected of cannabis dealing, but his dog had other plans. As the officer approached the car, the cop allegedly smelled cannabis and Coleman “appeared impatient” as the officer spoke with him. The officer then called for backup before conducting a search of the vehicle. On the backseat, inside a lunch bag, police found individually packaged cannabis, with an estimated value of £680 ($1,200). Coleman then fled the vehicle, sprinting down an adjacent roadway. Officers gave chase, as did the defendant’s dog, who bounded after his owner. An officer tried to subdue Coleman with an incapacitant spray, but Coleman’s pants ripped during the struggle and he was able to get loose again. Police made the arrest moments later, after finding Coleman hiding in the bushes of an apartment parking lot. A further search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a knife and a hammer in the glove box. Police also recovered two mobile phones containing evidence of drug dealing and £600 ($1,000) in cash. Coleman pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis with intent to supply and possession of a bladed article. Coleman’s lawyer argued that he had stayed out of trouble for nearly a decade and had found work as a pizza shop manager.…
