Oregon voters made history last night, approving two drug reform measures that are a radical departure from the norms of U.S. drug policy. Nearly 60 per cent of voters said ‘yes’ to Oregon Measure 110 , reclassifying personal drug possession offences, including for substances like heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine, to lesser violations. Rather than jail time, individuals found in possession of Schedule I-IV drugs will need to complete a health assessment and pay a $100 fine. Voters also approved Measure 109 , to create regulations for the therapeutic use of psilocybin products for those 21 and older, becoming the first U.S. state to establish a regulated psilocybin program. The program will be administered by the Oregon Health Authority.
