Thailand Opens Cannabis Clinic Focusing On Traditional and Alternative Medicine

Thailand’s government has taken a remarkably proactive approach to supplying its populace with medicinal cannabis by opening its first full-service medicinal marijuana clinic in Bangkok on Monday. Patients at the clinic will receive two weeks of free care when they come to the facility. The government estimates that the new center will tend to some 200 to 300 patients daily. 2,200 individuals have already registered with the facility for care that will continue at least through March. The clinic is the first in the country that will operate throughout the week. Approximately 25 clinics attached to public hospitals in the country currently open intermittently due to a paucity of staff. The government has set a goal of opening a cannabis clinic in every district, for an eventual total of 77 in their country. But the government is under no illusion that the current supply of cannabis-related health treatment is equivalent to demand for the plant-based medicine. “This is a pilot clinic, because we cannot produce enough doctors with expertise in cannabis,” said the country’s public health minister Anutin Charnvirakul.
