Europe’s ‘cannabis capital’ cracks down on drug trade in desperate bid to join EU | World | News | Express.co.uk

The Albanian government have been working with Italy’s Guardia di Finanza – the financial police – to bring an end to the country’s rampant drugs trade, and in the last year their efforts have reduced the area under cannabis plantation by 75 per cent.

The aim of the crackdown is to show Brussels officials that the tiny nation is successfully tackling crime and is therefore ready to join the bloc, with the country’s prime minister Edi Rama claiming he expects Albania to join the EU in the early 2020s.
